With Chicagoland’s sun-snow-sun-snow-sun pattern, we all are bit stir crazy, especially young children. Warm weather is almost here to stay for a few months in the Midwest. With plenty of green grass, parks, and fun things to do in Schaumburg, IL, it is a perfect Chicago suburb for kids to spend their time outside. From waterpark to baseball, there is plenty for families with kids to choose from. Here are our top choices for children’s outdoor activities in Schaumburg, IL.

Spring Valley Nature Center and Heritage Farm

According to the Schaumburg Park District,

“Spring Valley is a refuge of 135 acres of fields, forests, marshes, and streams.”

The center features nature information and historical displays, including a living history farm from the 1880s. Kids of all ages can enroll in a program at the nature center or stop by for a special event. Also situated on the land is a log cabin with a fire fit and picnic shelter you can rent for a birthday party. Whether your child wants to learn more about nature, or take a hike through the woods, there is plenty to experience at this free facility.

Atcher Island Waterpark

Not quite yet open, but will be in one short month, is Schaumburg’s very own waterpark. A part of the Park District, Atcher Island waterpark is a tropical paradise equipped with water slides, a drop slide, a playground, and concessions. The pool is also available during the summer for children’s birthday parties. Kids can enjoy the waterpark for a daily fee of $6-$8 and adults for $8-$10, depending on residency. Season passes are also available for families who really enjoy taking a dip on the island.

Schaumburg Boomers Stadium

Ready for an evening at the ball park? This is one of the coolest activities in Schaumburg, IL. Head on over to the Schaumburg Boomers Stadium and maybe your kid will be the next to catch a foul ball! Sports events are a great way to get your children out of the house and engaged in something active. There’s even a chance they could be inspired to sign up for a baseball camp over the summer. Outside of baseball, the stadium also holds events like an Easter egg hunt in the spring, and the Ballpark Brew Fest over the summer. Tickets range from $8-$11 or you can event purchase season tickets if your child is an avid Boomers fan!

Olympic Park

Located south of Woodfield Mall is a 72-acre site of soccer and softball fields called Olympic Park. This is one of our favorite fun things to do in Schaumburg, IL because there are activities for all ages and personalities. The synthetic turf fields are made to be extra durable and comprise over 550,555 square feet of the park. The fields are a great space for large tournaments or for kids to practice their skills. Also situated at the park is a playground, basketball courts, a skate park, community garden plots, a walking path, and two concession stands. Olympic Park is perfect for the athletes and outdoor-types in your family.
